Dawson aims for title shot

Dawson, beaten for the first time last time out 18 months ago, beat Edwards 58-56 on points at Bethnal’s York Hall on Sunday. It was Edwards’ second defeat in ten outings and is expected to earn Dawson a belated title shot.

Dawson’s only defeat in a stop-start career came in March last year when he was stopped by Matty Askin in pursuit of the Central Area crown.

But the Thorpe Hesley boxer, who clocked up eight straight wins before taking a five-year break from the sport, is confident he can get it right this time.

He said: “I think I’ve got the beating of him. He has a good record but hasn’t really fought anyone.
