Davis and Eddison race to the honours in 120-strong Rockingham 5K

A FIELD of more than 100 runners took to the start line for the Rockingham Chase 5K, with some familiar names to the fore.

Maltby Running Club’s Luke Davis was the first man home and Rotherham Harriers’ Catherine Eddison took the women’s prize in what was the sixth in the KMR Series organised by the Harriers, Kimberworth Striders and the Maltby club.

The race involved an out-and-back route to Wentworth for the 120 competitors.

Davis finished ahead of runner-up Arron Larkin (unattached) and third-placed Matthew Dolby (Worksop Harriers).

The Rotherham Running Club pair of Samantha Cotton and Claire Chapman were second and third respectively to Eddison in the women’s race.

Thomas Charles, first in his category.

The Harriers team included Steve Marshal, first in his age category, along with Simon Holt, Keith Charles, John Massingham, Steve Lilley, Craig Baggaley, Michael Lindley, Sasha Gallagher, Thomas Charles, David Walters, Emma Dutton, Peter Humphries, Kelly Ling, Michelle Eddison and Gillian Neal.

Kevin Doyle was the leading Kimberworth Strider, completing the new up and down route in 19.33. Tom Hardman was hot on his heels in 19.53, just edging out MV 55 winner Colin Earl (19.55). Andrew Hedison posted 21.30 ahead of Tom Burns with 21.39

Jonathan Griffin seems to have found his niche in running after progressing from the initial Walk to Run group. He returned in 22.20 to claim the MV35 title.

Joe Croft followed crossed the finish line in 23.24 ahead of Alan France (24.55).

Tina Medlock was the first lady Strider to finish, clocking 27.32. Hannah Atkinson (29.26) and Caroline Birkinshaw (29.40) followed.

Tina Bell was next to cross in 30.45 while Gavin and Nicola Smith ran together and timed 34.24.
