Cyclists' tribute to tragic Peter

CYCLISTS from across South Yorkshire turned out in number on Sunday morning to take part in a long distance memorial ride to celebrate the life of Dinnington Racing Club rider Peter Hinchliffe.

Thirty-three year-old Peter from Conisbrough tragically collapsed and died in September from an undetected heart defect while out riding.

Those taking part in Sunday’s memorial ride, one of Peter’s favourite training routes, covered a 60-mile loop setting off from the Buttercross monument in Tickhill, went as far as Epworth, North Lincolnshire and then returned to Tickhill.

Peter’s father, retired GP Robert, was among the riders who were remembering their much-missed friend.

Robert said: “We had a wonderful turn out of about 90 riders and we would like to thank all of them for their efforts.

“Most of the riders were from local clubs, mainly Dinnington and Doncaster Wheelers but there were people from further afield such as the Race Scene guys from Barnsley and Steve Thompson and his mates from Derby.
