Cricket merger moves closer

THE amalgamation of South Yorkshire's two main cricket leagues seems to have moved a step closer.

The South Yorkshire Alliance League is considering joining the bigger South Yorkshire Senior League and pitched the idea to its clubs at an EGM in Wickersley last week.

John Turner, secretary of the Alliance, said the response was positive and clubs were now consulting their players before giving an official response.

The result of the vote is imminent and, if approved, the new set-up will come into force next year.

The two leagues believe they will be stronger together and can better secure the future of the Saturday game in the area.
