Salvin worked with the Titans for three years, leaving in 2017, since when he has been part of the Yorkshire Academy set-up.

His arrival follows the departure of joint head coach Anthony Posa, who was dismissed last month after a poor first half of the season.

Speaking after Saturday's 38-32 home defeat to Plymouth in National One, director of rugby Martin Jenkinson confirmed Salvin's arrival.

"It's common knowledge that Anthony Posa has left us. It's a two-man effort and Steve Salvin has come in. He has bags of experience with England Counties, Yorkshire Academy and ourselves.

"He will have commitments to the Yorkshire Academy but he will be here and he can work with our forwards and backs."

Titans led 20-10 at half time against Plymouth with tries from Dan Leake and Sam Boxhall plus two conversions and penalties from Sam Hollingsworth, only to ship 28 unanswered points in the second half.

Late tries from skipper Zak Poole and wing Jamie Cooke ensured two deserved losing bonus points on a day when nearest rivals, Birmingham Moseley, suffered an eighth straight defeat.

The gap between the two has narrowed to seven points.

Jenkinson added: "Two points could so easily have been four and even five. For 60 minutes we were the better team but Plymouth scored four unanswered tries in just over 20 minutes and that was very disappointing.

"Having said that, we had a good training week — the best one we have had for some time — and I believe we have seen the start of the mending process."

Rotherham are away to Cambridge on Saturday.
