Clarke-Harris targets first win

STRIKER Jonson Clarke-Harris insists a first victory can provide the kick-start for Rotherham United to turn their fortunes around.

Out of favour at the beginning of the season, the club's record signing has emerged, with the help of a clear-the-air meeting with Steve Evans, to become one of the few success stories of the campaign so far.

Dropped to the bench at Charlton on Saturday, he came on as a substitute at Brighton on Tuesday and proved a point by getting another goal, his third in six appearances.

A few more need to follow his lead if Rotherham are to get themselves out of bother but Clarke-Harris believes there is untapped potential in the group and hopes that once the first three-pointer is finally snared, they can kick on.

“I think we're getting there,” he told the Advertiser. “To be honest I can't really put my finger on it but I do believe that when everyone is switched on and on their game then we can beat anyone.

“The one thing we have to get out of the way is that first win. You saw how we played in the last 15 or 20 minutes at Brighton, if we can start games like that I think we will be OK."

Clarke-Harris is now in contention for a start against Cardiff City at the AESSEAL New York Stadium this afternoon. Kick-off is 3pm.
