Boxer Kash Ali awaits his fate after biting controversy

SHAMED boxer Kash Ali is sweating over his future in the ring after being disqualified for biting in Saturday's heavyweight clash with David Price.

The Rotherham based fighter appeared to bite Price in the rib cage in the fifth round of the bout in Liverpool.

The British Boxing Board of Control said Ali would appear before its central area council, where he is likely to face further sanction.

In 1999, British middleweight Adrian Dodson was banned for 18 months for biting Canadian Alain Bonnamie. Ten years ago, Dereck Chisora was suspended for four months for a biting incident.

The latest incident was sparked after Liverpudlian Price landed a good shot on Ali in round five. Ali fell on top of his opponent and appeared to bite Price near his rib cage. TV footage showed the proof.

After leaving the ring at the M&S Bank Arena, Ali apologised.

"It was out of order," he said. "It was a good fight and I had him hurt in the fifth and could have stopped him, which I would have. It was a stupid thing I did, ridiculous. There are no excuses for it.

"I apologise to all the fans that were supporting me and anyone I have let down. It won't happen again."

If Ali eventually steps back into the ring it won't be in a re-match with Price.

"I don't want to share the ring with an animal like that," he said.

It was Birmingham-born Ali's first pro defeat and his purse was witheld.

On the same night, Rotherham's Atif Shafiq enjoyed a successful comeback at the Magna Centre after a year out.

The ambitious lightweight outpointed Eligio Palacios from Nicaragua over six rounds to move his pro record to 20-2.
