Big thanks to Don Valley

ROTHERHAM United chairman Tony Stewart has paid tribute to Sheffield International Venues (SIV) for a "fantastic" four years at Don Valley Stadium.

At the Millers' annual end of season dinner, Stewart thanked SIV, which operates the venue, for its hospitality and professionalism in welcoming the club after they were forced to leave Millmoor in 2008.

He said: "I would like to thank Pat Smith and his team for what has been a fantastic four years. The professionalism and hospitality they have shown has been second to none. Without Don Valley, we simply would not be the club we are today.

"We have had some special games there. After leaving Millmoor, having a home like Don Valley gave us a strong platform to plan for the club's future and our move back home to Rotherham. We cannot thank them enough for what they have done for us."

Don Valley is also a training base for Rotherham Titans rugby team. Rugby league team Sheffield Eagles will play nine fixtures at the stadium this season and it is a main training base for the Eagles' first team and development squads.

Pat Smith, general manager of Don Valley Stadium, said: "It has been a pleasure to host Rotherham United and we are proud of the part we have played in the Millers' history as well as helping the club to move forward.

"This is not the end of a four-year partnership. In Tony and the Board we have made friendships for life and we wish the club every success for the future."

The Millers start afresh back in Rotherham at the New York Stadium next season.
