Attention turns to away test

ROTHERHAM United aim to strengthen their grip on a League One play-off place when they take on top-six rivals Peterborough at the weekend.

Victory would put the Millers 11 points clear of their hosts, who sit one place below them in sixth, and edge them nearer to confirming their involvement in the end-of-season promotion shootout.

Manager Steve Evans believes his team could do that in the next two weeks or so and wants a positive result ahead of successive home games against title contenders Brentford next Tuesday and Bristol City next Saturday.

"It's a monster of a game at Peterborough," he said. "We know if we win then we've got a couple of home games after that and in the next two weeks we can tick the box for the play-offs, but in saying that you could still be fighting to get into them, so it's up to us. We'll freshen people up and get ready for a really tough test against a club I have the upmost respect for."

Substitute Nicky Adams' late equaliser earned a 1-1 draw against Walsall on Saturday after the visitors had been reduced to ten men with Ben Purkiss's dismissal for two bookable offences.

Although the result stretched the Millers' unbeaten run to 12 matches, they struggled to break through well-organised opponents.

Evans added: "We lacked a little bit of quality and composure in the first half. We had that in the second half and laid siege to their box and had loads of good play but were unfortunate two or three things in the box didn't go for us.

"We're a point nearer where we need to be."
