What happens next for Bailey Wright as loanee suffers concussion in first minute of his Rotherham United bow

The centre-half came on for Grant Hall in the 69th minute of yesterday's Championship draw with Sheffield United but then had to be replaced almost immediately himself following a head clash with an opponent.

The Australian international, brought in loan from Sunderland on the last day of the January transfer window, will now be tested daily at the Millers' Roundwood base as he undergoes concussion treatment.

He will have to pass a number of key checks before being allowed to play again and is expected, at this stage, to miss the February 11 trip to Blackpool.

"There is a protocol to go through with the medics in the next seven days or however long it takes," said manager Matt Taylor after the 0-0 stalemate with the Blades at AESSEAL New York Stadium. "We'll probably be without him next weekend."

Rotherham took no health risks with the 30-year-old, substituting him straightaway rather than seeing if he could play on.

"I was pleased we made the right decision and took Bailey off," Taylor said. "We just have to make sure he's safe.

"A lot of teams and managers haven't done the right thing in terms of the concussion protocol with their players."

The resurgent Millers, in 20th spot, were in excellent form for the third match running as they matched their second-placed opponents to remain five points clear of the relegation reckoning.

When Wright departed, Lee Peltier moved into the centre, with Wes Harding leaving the bench to slot n at right-back.

"We had to shift it around," Taylor said. "Everyone has to be ready. One of the positives right now the strength in depth we have got. We have a stronger bench than recently."
