These are some of the most popular nightclubs of the time from around Yorkshire, which hold fond memories for a generation of punters.
The clubs featured in this retro photo gallery attracted some huge names, from David Bowie and U2 to Kylie.
They include a super-club run by one of Britain’s most flamboyant businessmen, one venue known for its laser shows and 10p pints and another which when it opened was reputedly the biggest nightclub in Europe.
How many of these nightclubs do you remember? Is your favourite club of the 70s or 80s among them?

17. The Limit
The Limit hosted some huge names, often before they were famous. The legendary nightclub opened on West Street, Sheffield, in 1978 and ran for 13 years until 1991. U2 played there in their early days, to just 13 punters, and Wham! also performed to a tiny audience before they were big. The venue also played a big role in the rise of local bands like the Human League, ABC and Def Leppard. 18. Martine's
Martine's, located in the Corn Exchange cellars in Leeds, was billed as the 'best discotheque around' and many former punters would say it lived up to the tag. One person recalled how the venue, pictured here in November 1980, was afor a time the only night club in Leeds which would let you in wearing jeans. | Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net Photo: Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net

19. Pentagon
Leeds Pentagon, pictured here in 1973, took over from the burned out Rycrofts building at the corner of Call Lane and Briggate. It was described during its heyday as 'an oasis where wining, dining and dancing are most important'. | National World Photo: YPN

20. Intime
This popular Leeds nightspot at the Merrion Centre was notable for its amazing interior, which one punter recalled featured a DJ inside a giant watch, cogs on the ceiling and a dancer in a cage. Fans remember the great music too, which included tracks from the Motown, Atlantic and Stax record labels. | National World Photo: National World
