You can only trust the food banks

IN my three score years and ten plus, I, like millions, more have seen vast changes. Born into a country at war, then living on rations for food and clothing, spud bashing, pea picking, paper rounds and errand running for an extra couple of bob.

I remember films I saw all those years ago but can’t remember what I watched on the television last night. One film has very special memories and I can still recall the script today, “Up for the Cup” with Albert Modley that is over 60 years ago.

Full time employment and reasonable wages were called a hard day’s work for a fair day’s pay. The marvellous 60s and our music was rock and roll, with its freedom to express ourselves. We seem to have lost so much what with the community spirit among our mining families. Nobody went cold as miners helped those without coal and this was the norm.

Neighbours stepped in to help those who were ill by doing their washing and errands etc. I watch as the UK seem to be leaning to the far right and I think if Adolph Hitler came back he would be spoilt for choice as more than one political party would suit him.

I never thought all those years ago that one day the only banks you could trust would be food banks.
