Why are we all so keen to go green?

MARCH 17th and across Yorkshire, men and women turn green for the day, forgetting their English heritage and celebrate another country's saint's day, St Patrick's Day to be precise.

I wonder if these misguided souls realise what it is they are celebrating, Well, here it is, St Patrick is famed for chasing, yes chasing, the snakes out of Ireland and also allegedly introduced religion into the country.

Now I have had my share of celebrations in my time, but for the life of me I can't understand why an Englishman would want to celebrate the so-called feats of St Patrick, or am I missing something?
