Water up the nose

EVERY year now for what seems a lifetime I receive a letter from Richard Flint, chief executive of the water company Maggie gave away. This year the spiel he comes out with is pure magic, especially for his water company.

This is what he’s put together: “From April 1st the average household bill will move in line with inflation, that’s an increase of £6 instead of the allowed £12, some customers may pay more.” When I read this I could not look fast enough at my bill for 2014.

Last year I paid £468 so £6 added naturally I thought it would be £474; see I am good with sums. Well I should have taken more notice of the April 1st bit as it’s  Fool’s Day. Yes I was caught out and I am the April fool because my 2014 bill is £484.59, a whopping great inflation busting rise of £16. What gets me is, I am using the same now as I was when Maggie gave our water industry away.

Water may go into my mouth but I am paying through the nose.
