Unnecessary lighting

Sir—In this present-day push to economise I am incensed to have driven past the new Rawmarsh council offices on Barbers Avenue which is not yet open for business but is floodlit, as were the empty car parks.

Who is paying for all this electric? I presume we are through Council Tax.

Why all this floodlighting when surely an adequate, expensive intruder alarm has been installed within the building?

When the building is actually in use will we be faced with not only floodlights on the exterior but the internal lights left on overnight as the council does with their other premises?

I sit here in semi-darkness saving electric by using one of these energy saving devices and that building is lit up with gay abandon.
