The problem with this country

Dear Sir, Every week I stand out in town on the socialist party stall campaigning and petitioning for a better standard of living for all both in the UK and internationally and every week I wait for somebody to come up and sign the petition to stop the NHS

And without fail each week it comes. ‘I’ll tell thi’ what’s wrong wi’ this country kid, it’s them bloody immigrants, they come to this country taking, our jobs and housing’.

If only these people would take ten minutes out to think about why they are saying this. It’s not because they have any evidence that preferential treatment is being given, it’s because there basic standard of living has been stripped down so much that somebody needs to be blamed and they’ve heard somebody else say it, so it must be true.

Firstly there is a massive difference between an immigrant and an asylum seeker, which is generally what they mean when they make this outrageous comment.

Asylum seekers get very little help and in some cases no benefits at all to live on. In the vast majority of cases they don’t come to Britain for our welfare system which they know little about but because they come from poverty and live in such poor conditions that there health is suffering and in many cases their lives are under threat.

They don’t jump the queue for Local Authority housing but instead are crammed into ‘hard to let properties’ where nobody else wants to live.

They don’t come here seeking the promise land expecting fantastic quality housing, free food and all the material possessions we all believe we need, but instead are looking for a place of safety and refuge.

After all, It would be wise not to forget that they come from countries that our country has robbed, abused and manipulated for its own ends for many years.
