School experience down the pan

Sir, I hear the last lot of teachers are having their leaving dos at Rawmarsh. I was brought up in Rawmarsh, went to the school and was taught by a lot of these teachers.

I saw the school blossom into the school it has become, which was respected throughout Rotherham.

A school which had high standards, an excellent staff and facilities next to none. A school where the kids were welcome and wanted to go. What we have lost at Rawmarsh is the backbone of the school.

Staff and teachers who have been forced out to find other jobs, go on to part time teaching and look for early retirement. Over 200 years of experience which has been sacrificed for the dollar, my friend.

Make no bones about it results will drop and then it the teacher will get it in the neck for a drop in standards. As always the kids of Rawmarsh will suffer and another generation will have been lost to the dole queue.

They are following an ethos which not only politicises our education but commercialises it also. In one word they are going down the academies path by the back door.

This will result in lowering of standards and an education system which has been knocked back thirty years.

Staff will come and go because of low wages and high stress levels. I just hope people realise what they’re going to miss at Rawmarsh. How many years' experience down the pan? All to pay for new offices, bigger class sizes, unqualified teachers.

The people of Rawmarsh would have a fit if they only realised.
