No to the minaret

I AM an 83-year-old resident, born and bred in Rotherham.

I wish to object to the proposed very tall minaret that is intended to dominate the Rotherham skyline on the new Chapel Walk Mosque.

This would be the lasting legacy of a council that wishes to appease the Asian community and has shown total disregard for the native English community, which has built this town over the last 2,000 years, the Jay report having highlighted the council failings over the last 16 years.

Consideration must be shown to the children and families of children abused by men of the Asian community. What will they think when they see this tall minaret dominating Rotherham?

Historically minarets were used to call people to prayers but in the 21st century people have the means to tell the time and know the prayer time so minarets are not necessary.

I wish the council to take another look at the minute that passed the building of the new Chapel Walk Mosque and amend it from the minaret to a less conspicuous dome.

Please, please, no tall minaret dominating my Rotherham skyline.

Mr D Kay, Lapwater Road, Rotherham
