Marching for the future

Sir - I’m writing in as a few people often comment that there is no future for the youth of today, a real lack of prospects, a lack of real jobs and nothing to look forward to.

According to figures released last week, there are now 972,000 people aged 16 to 24 looking for a job. 80,000 people were made unemployed in the three months leading up to July, the vast majority of whom (77,000) were under 25.

It is clear that many of this year's school and college leavers have been thrown straight on the scrapheap.

Due to these alarming statistics the campaign group Youth Fight For Jobs is recreating the Jarrow March for the 75th Anniversary of the original Jarrow March.

The march starts on October 1 and the march’s route will take it in to Rotherham, it’ll pass through Thorpe Hesley on Wednesday October 12 at midday.

So I ask the general public of Rotherham, the youth, the unemployed and the trade unionists to join the marchers at midday at the “rec” in Thorpe Hesley.
