LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Public ownership

PEOPLE are quite rightly complaining about the lack of buses in Rotherham, but this can be traced back to the deregulation of buses in 1985 brought in by the Thatcher government.

Around the same time, the utility industry was privatised which now means that energy costs are higher than they should be due to a layer of middlemen and fat cat share holders.

No doubt in the 80s a lot of people got rich out of all this, and went out and bought expensive cars that have long since rusted.

It’s time we had a major rethink on re-nationalisation and brought public services back to the public.
