Knotweed is not funny

I WOULD like to the people of Rotherham know what may be lurking in the countryside and more importantly in their gardens.

The dreaded Japanese knotweed has caused many people much pain, and in the case of Dr K McRae and his wife tragedy.

Mortgages have been rejected when Japanese Knotweed has been found in and around property, which can be made unstable.

Do not be tempted to pinch the ‘pretty plant’ when out walking or heaven forbid in your property. It is an evil invader. I love my garden and have studied my plants over many years. Also our homes are our castles.

If there is a redeeming feature about this plant introduced here in 1850 it is that it is not pollinated by the wind, but that fact is no comfort when its tendrils are coming up through your house foundations.

Readers, check your gardens!
