Sir - In response to Mr Chaggers' letter ('Top Team' ,  Advertiser, July 20)  I am not of the opinion to have criticised the town centre team, I myself work in the town centre and liase with the majority of the frontline staff on a daily basis and have found that whenever any issues or concerns raare raised, assistance in any shape or form is never far away and genuinely (like yourself) commend the team.

The questionraised in my previous letter is as to why the laws are not being implemented more rigorously. Yes people do have social problems but does that mean that they are therefore free to roam the streets intoxicated, screaming abuse and leaving a trail of destruction for the town team to remove, whilst the remnants of people who still visit the town have to stand by and watch this almost daily charade.

In your letter you ask "do we keep cleaning up after them?"  NO you enforce the law. other towns are implementing a zero policy strategy to great success.

Afew fines I suggest would radically alter some people's views on where to correctly discard unwanted items. I am not championing a police state but hoping to rekindle a resurgence of civic pride into our town again before its too late and we sink into the abyss !
