Changes at strike school an attack on our futures

Sir—So what do we get for our money now the dust has settled at Rotherham Community School? What do I get for my grandchildren and family?

I’ll tell you what we get. We get a dispute which could have been averted by some common sense on the management and council’s part.

After all didn’t the union advocate job sharing and voluntary redundancies instead of the slash and burn proposals of the hierarchy?

We get a skills audit not worth the money it’s been written on, where management have manipulated results to get rid of people they didn’t want, where management have shoehorned the chosen ones into jobs for the boys

Rules have been broken and borders moved, regulations blurred.

I’ll tell you what we’ve got.

An education system which has been used as a blunt instrument and manipulative weapon to try and curtail the unions.

The main casualties have been the education of Rawmarsh’s future.

Teachers go into teaching to teach, those who can’t get management jobs. That’s where the fun starts.

Would you hire a mechanic to do a brain surgeon’s job? Neither would I.

Some of these people have been put in charge of our hard earned taxes, I include management and governors in this, and then are left to wreak havoc.

The result is another missed generation whose only hope lay in a good sound education. Now all the kids have to look forward to is scratching for a living.

Even as I write this, class sizes are going up and chances are being lost. What about the department which could have made a difference for my family.

Isn’t it a fact that new industries are to be established in the vicinity of Rotherham? So what do you think would be the best bet, educate our kids on making things and producing goods?

No it seems RCS are to stuff things down their throats which aren’t relevant to their job prospects and devastate the department that could have helped the cause.

I wonder if it was a chance to get rid of union members and not on an educational judgement?

A chance to settle scores while our kids rot on the sidelines? Can’t the people of Rawmarsh see that this is an attack on our future and on the people that care about it?

We’re all in it together is the oft-quoted term. It only seems to be for some though whilst others get wage rises and nice plush offices.

Now they’ve chosen to hit one of the most vulnerable and low-paid at RCS—the canteen staff who are awaiting their demise.
