Young thespians stage Broadway hit Hairspray

A YOUTH theatre group is preparing to don giant wigs and colourful costumes to celebrate its fourth anniversary with a production of Hairspray.

Steps Productions will take to the stage with its latest show at Winterhill Comprehensive School between November 16 and 18.

More than 40 cast members aged between seven and 19 years of age will star in musical which has already proved a resounding hit on Broadway, the West End and on the big screen.

The show’s director, Ash White, said: “Rehearsals are going very well and all the cast are looking forward to the production which is such a feel good musical dealing with issues racism and segregation in Baltimore 1962.”

Steps are already looking for a new crop of recruits to star in their next production.

Auditions will be held on November 25 for their forthcoming production of Les Miserables which is set to be performed at the Rotherham Civic Theatre in July next year.
