Young child dies at Clifton Park

Emergency services were called to the park on Sunday afternoon after reports of an incident and a police cordon was put in place just before 4pm.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance arrived at the scene shortly after, before leaving at 4.25pm.

The girl was taken to Rotherham Hospital by a land ambulance under a police escort at around 4.30pm, an eyewitness said.

Police confirmed her death but refused to comment further because the incident has not been classed as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Rotherham Council said: “We were saddened to hear of the passing of a child at Clifton Park over the weekend. Our thoughts are very much with the family at this extremely difficult time.”
