Wortley Road to be closed for up to a fortnight

MOTORISTS face delays next week as work to resurface the A629 Wortley Road gets underway.

The road will be closed in one direction between the Fenton Road roundabout and Bradgate Lane from Monday (August 1).

Traffic travelling from Rotherham towards Thorpe Hesley will be diverted via Meadowbank for the M1 motorway. Local traffic will be diverted via Kimberworth Park.

Drivers travelling in the opposite direction can continue to use Wortley Road for the duration of the works, which are expected to last up to a fortnight.

Rotherham Council’s assistant director of community safety and Street Scene, Karen Hanson, said: “We apologise in advance for any disruption these works may cause, but it will result in a much better road surface for drivers and the residents who live there.

“To minimise the impact on road users, the works have also been planned to take place during the summer school holidays as traffic flows are significantly lighter during this period.

“We have already been in touch with residents and any local businesses nearby to let them know what is happening, but if anyone has any concerns or issues caused by the works our staff on site will be happy to try and resolve these.”

The council is investing £10 million in improving roads across the borough, as part of its 2020 Roads Programme. This includes targeted work to resurface many of Rotherham’s estate roads as well as a wider package of road maintenance.
