World Cup ref Howard Webb makes learners feel top of the league

WORLD Cup final referee Howard Webb was on hand to reward over 100 adult learners for their efforts in education at a special awards ceremony.

The former professional football referee — now technical director of the Professional Game Match Officials Board — issued awards and certificates during the event at Rotherham Civic Theatre.

Maherun Choudhury, Development Officer at Rotherham Borough Council, who organised the event, said: "Howard gave an inspirational speech and told everyone not to give up but to persevere and follow their dreams, as in the end you always succeed.

“He said that he never would have got to where he is now if he had given up at the first hurdle.”

Among those who received awards were: Creative Art, Zoe Green; Creative Writing, Emily Barlow; Learner Volunteer of the Year, Faye Holmes; Human Resource of the Year, Sofia Sabir; Learner of the Year, Kristy Redwood; Most Inspiring Learner of the Year, Sandra Waterhouse; Tutors of the Year, Hayley Brown and Vicky Corbridge; Provider of the Year, Serenity Hair and Beauty School.
