TOP GEAR: Piper’s Car Sales boss Stewart Piper has presented the town’s volunteer litter collector Nigel Cannings with a set of high visibility protective gear. Nigel’s wife, clerk to Tickhill Town Council Margaret Canning-Clough, and the newly elected mayor of Tickhill Cllr Brian Keith accompanied Nigel as Stewart handed over the specially made kit that will ensure Nigel will be safe. As the town’s volunteer litter picker deputy mayor Cllr Cannings is out and about all year round to ensure the town is tidy.

RECORD KNITTERS: The Mother Teresa Knitting Group makes clothes and blankets for needy people overseas. Group co-ordinator John Marsden and his team recently transported 350 items including blankets, cardigans, jumpers, socks and gloves to the Christian African Relief Trust HQ in Huddersfield. The items were then sent to The Gambia, Malawi, Mzuzu and Uganda. The town’s Mother Teresa Knitting Group numbers around 40 knitters and welcomes donations of double knitting wool. WALKING PROGRAMME: Tickhill and District Footpath Group has produced a programme of walks around the local area and trips away through to February. The aim of the group is to monitor the state of footpaths in the parish of Tickhill and ensure they are in good condition. It organises easy walks every week either on Sunday afternoon or Monday evening. Committee meetings on first Thursday of  month 7.30pm in the vestry of the Methodist Church. POPULAR NIGHT: The weekly Bike Night at The Oak pub is continuing to attract motorcycle enthusiasts. Bikes of all sizes and vintages can be seen every Thursday evening at the Northgate hoselry. The popular event is organised by landlords Michelle Dallinson and Wes Needham.

ALLOTMENT SECURITY: DMBC has reminded tenants who rent allotments at Tithes Lane from the local authority that the site gate should remain locked at all times. Allotments officer Sam Lord has told tenants that failing to lock the gate may put the property at risk and encourage break-ins. Plot holders are encouraged to telephone DMBC Allotments 01302 736888 and South Yorkshire Police on 101 should incidents of theft, vandalism or trespass occur. Allotment tenants that persistently refuse to comply with DMBC’s request put their tenancy at risk.

TOUR DE TICKHILL: The free admission Tickhill Grand Prix 2015 bicycle races take place on September 20. Races co-ordinator Richard Stoodley and his Tickhill Velo Cycling Club colleagues have organised the YESS Electrical sponsored day of bike races on laps of a closed 1.3km course based upon Sunderland Street. Eight races will be contested by racers aged from under 12 years through to elite men and women. They will be competing for a prize fund of £10,000.

HANSEL AND GRETEL: The pantomime this year at Tickhill Institute by the Tickhill Together group will be Hansel and Gretel from December 2-5.
