Weekender readers make a difference this Christmas

THERE was a delivery with a difference at one children’s hospice this week when our pile of Weekender presents arrived in time for Christmas.

Thanks to our generous readers, young people at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice received a mountain of gifts which had been piled high in our Mexborough High Street office.

Our annual appeal aims to make a difference to the lives of the children and young people at the North Anston hospice with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses.

Weekender office manager Karen Mullins said: “This has been the best year yet and once again we have been really moved by the kindness and the generosity of our readers.

“The number of people who have called in with a gift, or in some cases sacks full of presents, has been overwhelming.

“It just shows that even in tough times, people in the Dearne Valley will go out of their way to help others.

“We can’t thank our readers enough.”

Among those who made donations were Colin Daines from Edlington, Harrogate Drive Community Centre in Denaby and Dunholm Social Club in Wath.

Bluebell Wood press officer Rachel Watson said the team was delighted to receive so many presents for the children.

She added: “Thank you so very much to the Weekender readers for donating these gifts to us, to see them all arrive here at the hospice was just fabulous.”
