Weapons threat at Maltby school was false alarm, says headteacher

Maltby Academy principal Richard Wood said staff had taken immediate action following the threat from an "off-site student" on Tuesday.

The school alerted the police at 10.10am that it had received a call reporting that a number of people would attend the premises with weapons.

"We reacted to the potential threat immediately and did everything in our power to protect our students," said Mr Wood.

"This involved alerting the police and staffing the perimeter fence.

"Thankfully, it was a false alarm but we are pleased to have dealt with the matter so efficiently and successfully."

Mr Wood said an "off-site student" was an excluded pupil or someone not meant to be on-site at that particular time.

He said reports the school had gone into "lockdown" were false. 

A police spokeswoman said: "It is understood that the school received a call reporting that a number of people would attend the premises with weapons. The school notified police and implemented its own safeguarding processes.

"Nobody showed up at the school and officers did not have to attend."
