Youth (17) appears in court over attack on delivery driver

A TEENAGER has appeared in court after a delivery driver was knocked over during an attempted theft.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Thursday in connection with the alleged assault on Alexandra Road, Swallownest, on April 1.

The driver was delivering parcels at around 2.45pm when two unknown males reportedly attempted to steal items from him, a police spokesperson said.

He was then assaulted and knocked over after a moped was intentionally driven at him, added the spokesperson.

The boy is charged with attempted theft from a motor vehicle, actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, dangerous driving, driving offences and criminal damage.

He was bailed and is due to appear again at court on Wednesday.
