Youngsters raise their voices and £1,000 for Rotherham Hospital

TODDLERS and teens singing carols at Rotherham Hospital’s Christmas fair helped to raise over £1,000 for patients and their families.

Youngsters from Busy Bees Nursery and St Bernard’s Catholic High School sang yuletide tunes as volunteers and colleagues from the hospital and Unison Rotherham sold cakes, crafts, cards, and Christmas trees.

The lights were switched on by Santa himself - with help from the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Cllr Alan and Mrs Sandra Buckley, plus hospital chairman Martin Havenhand.

The event raised a total of £1,074.52 to buy equipment, resources and projects for patients and their relatives.

Mr Havenhand said: “We hoped our Charity Christmas Fair would help raise spirits at what can be a difficult time of year for many people - especially if they are spending time in hospital away from their loved ones.

“The children from both schools sang beautifully and really helped to kick off the festive season in style.

“Thank you to all our volunteers who helped the event run smoothly, to our amazing Santa and everyone who donated cakes, gifts, raffle prizes or selection boxes and to everyone who attended - we really appreciate it.”

Cllr Buckley added: “It was a real honour for Sandra and I to switch on the lights and be able to hear the children sing carols so wonderfully.

“They should feel really proud of themselves, especially the youngsters from St Bernard’s who did solo songs.

“I’m sure it will be something we will look back on fondly after our year as Mayor and Mayoress comes to an end.”
