Youngster fights off balaclava-wearing attacker

A 13-year-old girl managed to fend off an attacker who grabbed her as she rode on her  bike on Monday evening.

The incident happened at around 7.30pm in the Kendal Wood area of North Anston after the girl was heading to meet up with friends.

The attacker is described by police as in his mid 60s, wearing a balaclava, dark clothing and dark gloves.

The girl kicked at the man and managed to get free and run away.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers are currently investigating this incident, which appears to be a one-off with no evidence at this stage to suggest there have been any similar attacks in the area.

“The local Police Young Person's Partnership Officer will be visiting the local school to offer advice and reassurance to teachers and parents and to remind children about personal safety tips while out and about.”
