Yellow lines move to beat Eastwood parking problems

PARKING restrictions are to be placed on roads around a busy Rotherham mosque in a bid to tackle traffic congestion.

Double yellow lines will be put in place on Russell Street by the Jamia Masjid Abu Bakr mosque in Eastwood.

Rotherham Borough Council’s assistant director of street scene and community safety, Ajman Ali, said the local authority had been working with the mosque in relation to easing traffic congestion around the building.

He said: “We recognise the need to balance the needs of local businesses with residents and as such we will shortly be introducing further parking restrictions to help ease congestion.”

A consultation has been held by the council over the issue.

Enforcement action against illegal parking will take place throughout the week and be enforced by traffic patrols, said the council.

Cllr Wendy Cooksey said that the mosque had been “helpful and positive” about the yellow lines.

She said that yellow lines were introduced where people had been “parking inconsiderately”, often following requests from residents.
