Wrong-way motorist arrested after Centenary Way collision

A MOTORIST who collided with a pensioner's car after driving the wrong way down Centenary Way has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A silver Vauxhall Vectra travelled the wrong way down Centenary Way at 11.55am yesterday (Wednesday) after failing to stop for police and collided with a red Peugeot 107 at the junction of Sheffield Road, a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said.

A woman (73), who was driving the Peugeot, was taken to hospital, where she remained for observations, the spokeswoman said.

The driver of the Vauxhall Vectra, a Rotherham man (27), was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and possession of controlled drugs.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue, said the spokeswoman.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision and are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 363 of June 3.
