World class job for Mexborough physio Kat

PHYSIO Kat Dawson has returned to her day job at Montagu Hospital after working for Ireland’s Rugby League World Cup team.

Kat became involved with Sheffield Eagles after graduating and a chance conversation with head coach Mark Aston helped her realise her ambition to work at international level.

Mark put her in touch with the Ireland team doctor and Kat said: “I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity.

“The therapy team worked long days regularly into the late evening treating players and managing the squad’s recovery from training and games which included, ice baths, pool sessions, massage, pilates and stretching classes.

“Unfortunately the Irish league team didn’t make it past the group stages.  They had a challenging group made up of England, Australia and Fiji, who all made the semi-finals of the competition, with Australia winning the World Cup final.

“The three weeks I spent in camp were fantastic and an invaluable experience which has developed me as a physiotherapist.  I hope to continue to be part of the Irish medical team in the future.”

Kat continues to work with the Eagles in addition to her NHS role, which includes GP clinics in Conisbrough and Edlington.
