Woman suffers 'life-threatening' injuries after car and two lorries collide

A WOMAN has suffered “life-threatening injuries” after being involved in a three-vehicle collision which shut down a major road yesterday (Wednesday).

Police officers closed the A635 Dearne Valley Parkway near Goldthorpe from around 2pm until after 6pm, diverting traffic through the village and causing severe delays.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the smash, which involved a black Vauxhall Astra, a white Daf box van and a white Scania articulated HGV.

A spokesman said: “A 38-year-old woman driving the Astra suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

“Were you travelling on the Dearne Valley Parkway yesterday afternoon? Did you witness the collision?

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said three appliances were called to the scene at 1.50pm.

The crews from Rotherham, Adwick and Barnsley helped to remove occupants from the car, she added.

Witnesses are urged to call 101 quoting incident number 536 of July 4.
