Woman rescued from Holmes flat fire after using toaster to light cigarette

A WOMAN was rescued from a flat fire in Holmes on Saturday morning - after trying to light at cigarette with a toaster.

Firefighters from Rotherham and Elm Lane were called to Meadow Street at 10.41am.

They found smoke coming from a flat and immediately entered the property, said a spokesman from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

"The breathing apparatus crew rescued one woman from inside the property and extinguished the fire inside, which was limited to the kitchen worktops and a toaster," he added.

"It is understood the fire was started when the occupant tried to light a cigarette using a toaster."

The fire was dealt with by 11.44am and the occupant did not require any medical treatment.
