Woman (86) seriously hurt in horror smash

AN ELDERLY woman is fighting for her life and another pensioner was injured after a crash at a crossroads near North Anston.

A blue Mazda 3 driven by an 86-year-old woman was in collision with a white Toyota Hilux 4x4 at the crossroads of Todwick Road with Common Road in Dinnington at 2.23pm on Monday.

The Mazda driver, from Anston, suffered a fractured pelvis, internal injuries and serious head trauma. She is described as being in a life-threatening condition at Rotherham General Hospital.

Her front-seat passenger, a 77-year-old woman from Woodsetts, sustained a serious cut to her right eyebrow and was taken to the same hospital.

The Toyota driver, a 44-year-old man from the Worksop area, was believed to be unhurt.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision. Anyone who can help should call 101 and quote incident number 516 of Monday, 7 November.
