Woman (76) suffers serious head and pelvis injuries in "hit and run"

TWO men have been arrested after a suspected hit and run in which a 76-year-old woman suffered serious head and and pelvis injuries.

Police were called to Littlemoor Lane in Balby following reports of a white Ford Transit tipper colliding with the pedestrian.

A spokeswoman said it was believed that the Transit had hit the woman while reversing during the incident at 9.10am yesterday.

"It is alleged the driver and passenger got out of the vehicle and witnessed the woman on the floor, before leaving the scene," she added. 

"Officers later recovered the vehicle in the Doncaster area and arrested two men, the driver, a 38-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at a collision scene."

The Transit driver is said to have since been released under investigation.

The spokeswoman added: "A 56-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, and remains in police custody.

"The woman, who is from Balby, is being treated at Hallamshire Hospital for serious injuries to her brain and pelvis." 

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or may have dashcam of the vehicle prior or after the collision.
