Woman (46) in critical condition after being struck on M18

A 46-YEAR-old woman is in hospital in a critical condition after being reportedly struck by a lorry on the M18.

Police received reports at 4.40pm on Saturday of a woman on the wrong side of the railing over the M18 southbund, between Junction 2 (Bramley) and Junction 1.

"The woman is believed to have fallen from the bridge running over the motorway, Ruddle Lane, and collided with a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) in the carriageway," said a police spokeswoman.

"The 46-year-old was transported to Northern General Hospital where she remains in a critical condition. Her family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers."

Officers are now keen to hear from any motorists who had been travelling on the M18 on Saturday afternoon and witnessed the incident, or seen the woman prior.

Das cam footage of the area is also being sought.
