Woman (46) critically injured after suspected assault in Eastwood

A 46-YEAR-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital and a man has been arrested after a suspected assault in Eastwood last night (Monday). 

Officers were called to a property in Lindley Street at around 7.50pm after it was reported a 46-year-old woman had suffered a head injury.

The woman was taken to hospital where she remained in a critical condition this morning, said a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police.

"A 49-year-old man, known to the woman, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and remains in custody at this time," added the spokeswoman.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance attended the scene, landing in Tesco car park but did not transport the woman to hospital, a spokeswoman confirmed.
