Witness plea over failed cable theft

POLICE are appealing for help to track down thieves who stole cable from the side of a railway line but went away empty-handed after leaving it behind.

POLICE are appealing for help to track down would-be thieves who tried to steal cable from the side of a railway line but fled empty-handed.

British Transport Police detectives are appealing for information after the incident in the Aldwarke Lane, Rotherham, on Monday June 14 around 10.30pm.

Det Con Ian Grice said: “We believe that three men attended the lineside to pull at and steal the cable. 

“As they left the scene, they left the cable behind and left empty-handed. 

“The nearby Station Hotel was very busy at the time and concerned members of the public called police as soon as they saw what was happening. 

“We believe there are many more witnesses who saw the attempted theft and who may have some further information about the men involved, and we appeal for them to come forward.”

Officers are investigating the incident and conducting inquiries in the area.
