Witness plea after Rotherham man dies in smash

POLICE are appealing for information after a 34-year-old Rotherham man died in a collision with a bus in Ecclesfield last Friday.

POLICE are appealing for information after a 34-year-old Rotherham man died in a collision with a bus in Ecclesfield.

The 34-year-old man, who has not yet been named, was driving a white Nissan Micra which collided with a double decker bus travelling in the opposite direction on the A6135 Chapeltown Road at around 7pm on Friday.

When the vehicles were about 50 metres from the Ecclesfield side of the junction with Crakehall Road, the Micra crossed the carriageway into the path of the bus.

The Micra driver suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.

The bus driver, a 63-year-old man from Sheffield, was not reported to have been hurt.

Anyone who saw the collision or the manner of driving prior to it is urged to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 967 of 16 December.
