Witness plea after M18 smash

POLICE have launched an appeal for witnesses after a collision which left four people injured.

The crash between a blue Luton van and a grey Citroen Xsara Picasso caused traffic chaos near junction one on the M18’s southbound carriageway near Hellaby yesterday.

The Citroen is believed to have rolled over at least once after the collision before coming to a rest on the barrier of the hard shoulder.

Four people were taken to Rotherham General Hospital. Their injuries were said to be non-threatening.

The accident happened at around 12.40pm and the southbound carriageway of the motorway was closed for around four hours to allow the vehicles to be removed.

The driver of the van, a 46-year-old man from Derby, suffered whiplash and concussion while the driver of the Citroen, a 46-year-old woman from Cleveland, suffered whiplash and chest pains.

Two passengers from the Citroen, a 22-year-old man and 22-year-old woman, also from Cleveland, both suffered whiplash.
