Witness plea after 8-year-old seriously hurt in accident

A MOTORCYCLIST has been arrested following a hit-and-run accident which left an eight-year-old boy with a fractured skull and a broken leg.

The 20-year-old man from Swallownest is being questioned on suspicion of having no driving licence or insurance and failing to stop after or report the crash in which eight-year-old Lucas Thorpe was seriously hurt.

Lucas, also from Swallownest, was taken to Sheffield Children’s Hospital with serious injuries, including a broken leg, fractured eye socket, fractured skull, and another head injury after the accident in Arundel Avenue, Treeton, last Thursday.

A police spokesman said: “It is believed that a grey Peugeot Speedfight motorcycle was travelling along Arundel Avenue, Treeton, in the direction of Arundel Road, when it reportedly struck an eight-year-old boy.

“Officers are continuing their enquiries in relation to the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Police have appealed to people who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 904 ofApril 18.
