Witness appeal after man (73) dies on A1M

A 73-year-old man died after falling from a motorway bridge and being hit by a vehicle this morning (Wednesday).

South Yorkshire Police were called out because of concerns for the man, who was on the wrong side of railings over the A1M at Warmsworth.

Officers have appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage after the 5.10am incident between junctions 35 and 36 southbound.

The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours to allow investigation work to take place.

A police spokesperson said: “The investigating officers wish to thank motorists for their patience while this important work was carried out. 

“The man’s family has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are appealing for anyone who saw the man in the moments before the collision, or saw the collision itself, to contact us. 

“We are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have captured dash-cam footage of the incident or of any vehicles involved.”

Anyone with any information which could assist is asked to call 101, quoting incident 95 of April 27.
