Winter shelter to open its doors to the homeless

A FIRE station will open its doors tonight (Friday) for homeless people who need to take shelter from the sub-zero temperatures.

The winter shelter will open its doors from 9pm on sub-zero nights until 7am the next day thanks to a partnership between South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Rotherham Council and Framework.

The location of the fire station is not being revealed but people who are sleeping rough can access this service through a referral from the council's Homelessness Team 24/7 by ringing 01709 336009.

Arrangements will then be made for transport to the winter shelter.
