THE cause of a fire at a first-floor flat in Wingfield in the early hours of this morning (Monday) is under investigation.

Firefighters from Rotherham station were called to Plowman’s Way at 1.42am and tackled the fire using a hose reel while wearing breathing apparatus, a spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

They extinguished the fire and cleared the smoke from the flat.

No-one was injured and the cause is now under investigation.

They left the scene at 3.46am.

Conifers were accidentally set alight in Rotherham last night. Firefighters from Rotherham station were called to Broom Lane at 8.20pm and tackled the tree fire with a hose reel, the spokesman said.

Firefighters left the scene at 8.35pm.

Arsonists also torched rubbish dumped in Kilnhurst last night. Firefighters from Rotherham station were called to Glasshouse Road at 9.09pm and extinguised fly-tipped waste. They left the scene at 9.22pm.
