BUDDING gardeners from one Rotherham school have planted the seeds of success by creating an outdoor area for the community.

A group of 14 students from Wingfield Business and Enterprise College have spent the last seven months working on the project at Hampstead Green in Kimberworth Park.

The 15 and 16-year-olds had a helping hand from garden expert Lee Bestall as they designed and created the site which was officially opened on Wednesday.

And with residents already getting stuck in watering and weeding the garden, Wingfield head teacher Russell Heritage said that he was pleased to be involved in the partnership.

He said: "I am delighted that we have been able to support this community project and work in partnership to create a garden for everyone to enjoy.

"The students and tutors have worked really hard to complete the work which supports their learning and social skills development.

"I very much look forward to Wingfield students being involved in further community work and playing an important role within our area."

The project has been funded by a £1,800 grant from the ABC Project, which supports projects for the benefit of the community.

It will also help the students, who will make regular visits to maintain the garden, work towards qualifications in horticulture.
